Turkmenistan and the United Nations Development Program discussed further cooperation

On June 22, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov had a meeting with Rastislav Vrbensky, Deputy Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS countries, during which the issues of Turkmenistan's cooperation with UNDP were discussed.

Noting the results of the international conference "Partnership for Financing Development at the Heart of the Great Silk Road", held on June 20-21, 2018 in Ashgabat, the Turkmen side expressed its full commitment to further strengthen cooperation with the UN, its specialized organizations, agencies and institutions on the widest possible spectrum of questions.

The parties paid special attention to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the national level, stressing that Turkmenistan is currently carrying out this work on a systematic basis, applying the main criteria and indicators of the SDGs in drawing up national programs and plans for socio-economic and humanitarian development. In this context, the parties discussed issues of submitting a voluntary national review of the implementation of the Agenda for Sustainable Development in Turkmenistan until 2030 at the High-level Political Forum in 2019.

In addition, within the framework of the discussion of water issues in the Central Asian region, the Turkmen side informed about the work carried out by Turkmenistan within the framework of its chairmanship at the IFAS. Taking this opportunity, the Turkmen side announced an invitation to the UNDP leadership to take part in the upcoming summit of the heads of states of IFAS.
