Meeting at MFA Turkmenistan with Heads of UN agencies

On July 1, 2019, within walls of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan there was a meeting with heads and representatives of the United Nations agencies and specialized institutions accredited in Turkmenistan.

Meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, UN Permanent Coordinator, Representatives of UNICEF and WHO in Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of UNDP, IOM, UNODC, UNFPA and World Bank Group in Turkmenistan. Meeting passed in the format of exchanging views and in the spirit of constructive dialog.

During the meeting participants summed up the results of the joint work done over the first half of 2019 and discussed perspectives of cooperation for the coming period, implementation of joint plans and cooperation program.

Emphasizing strategic character of the cooperation, UN Permanent Coordinator Elena Panova expressed words of gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for constant support.

In the light of significance of the priority areas of cooperation of Turkmenistan with UN institutions, participants discussed issues related to development of the cooperation in various fields. Pointing out well-established mechanism of interaction between Turkmenistan and UN, sides marked a number of documents that serve the basis for practical actions. In particular, Partnership Framework for Development between Turkmenistan and the UN for the period of 2016-2020, Action Plan of Country Program on Cooperation with the UNDP for the period of 2016-2020, Agreement with UNDP on co-financing, Action Plans of Country Programmes on Cooperation with the UNICEF and the UNFPA for the period of 2016-2020.

Upon completion of the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and United Nations Country Office in Turkmenistan in coordination in emergency preparedness and response was signed.
