An extraordinary 8th congress of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan has been held

On April 2, 2018, the 8th extraordinary Congress of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan has been held, at which the key tasks facing one of the country's leading political organizations were discussed.

Along with delegates, government members, deputies of the Mejlis, representatives of the ministries and branch departments, scientific institutions, large public organizations and creative associations, mass media also participated in the forum.

The participants listened to the Address of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the delegates of the congress, which highlighted the importance of the current forum, which was intended to become a major socio-political event of 2018, held under the motto "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road".

During the forum the delegates of the congress summed up the results of the work done during the reporting period and discussed the main directions of the Democratic Party's activities in the near future.

As noted, the Democratic Party established right after the proclamation of the sovereignty of Turkmenistan, has now become an active social and political force and enjoys high authority among the citizens of the country. Currently, 57 party committees operate in the country, including 5 velayat, 12 urban and 45 etrap, and about 6,000 primary party organizations. In total, they unite more than 211 thousand citizens.

The debates on the main items on the agenda of the congress were made by the activists of the Democratic Party. Speaking about plans for the foreseeable future, the participants of the meeting noted the important role of further work on the patriotic and spiritual and moral education of the youth, its wide involvement in active participation in the transformations deployed in the country.

At the end of the debates, a draft resolution was adopted to approve the report of the Political Council of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, which was adopted unanimously.

Further, it was decided to release K. Babayev from the post of chairman of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan in connection with the transfer to another job.

Ata Serdarov was elected as the new chairman of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan. The forum also considered other organizational issues, on which relevant decisions have been taken.
