Days of Culture of Turkmenistan started in Albuquerque

On October 23, 2023, the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan opened in Albuquerque, USA. The events are dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi. On the eve, a representative delegation of 30 cultural and artistic figures of Turkmenistan arrived in Ashgabat’s sister city, Albuquerque.

Thus, on this date, a literature colloquium was held at the University of New Mexico dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi. The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the USA and the University of New Mexico with the support of the Albuquerque City Hall.

During this event, Magtymguly Fragi’s poems were read in the original and in English. Representatives of the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts named after Magtymguly of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Centralized Library System of the Department of Culture of Ashgabat made presentations on the life and creative work of Magtymguly Fragi.

Poet and member of the New Mexico State Senate, Mr. William Baldwin Onil, representing American side, made a speech at the event and praised the work of Magtymguly Fragi, sharing his positive impressions.

Also on that day, the delegation of Turkmenistan met with the President of the University of New Mexico, Ms.Garnett Stokes. During the conversation, prospects for the development of cooperation between universities of the two countries were discussed. The parties touched upon the possibilities of organizing online learning for Turkmen students and the visit of UNM professors to Turkmenistan to give lectures and exchange experiences in the field of teaching and education in general.
