Global Sustainable Transport Conference

Development of international cooperation in the field of transport is a key element of the Global Development Agenda. An obvious need for a systematic and purpose oriented partnerships in the field of transport is reflected in a number of resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, in particular, the resolution 70/197 «Towards comprehensive cooperation among all modes of transport for promoting sustainable multimodal transit corridors» of 22 December 2015, which was co-sponsored by 85 Member States.

The most important step to consolidate our efforts is the decision to call for the Global Conference on Sustainable Transport convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and welcomed by the General Assembly, which will be held on 26-27 November 2016 in the Turkmen capital city of Ashgabat. The Conference will seek to advance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The main objective of the Conference is to discuss specific areas of international partnership on stable and sustainable transportation systems, as an integral and vividly important element of the Sustainable Development Agenda.

Given the importance of the forthcoming Forum, we have the honour to invite You to participate in this first ever Global Conference on Sustainable Transport.

We are convinced that your participation will contribute to the overall efforts of the international community in promoting global cooperation in transport area.
