A PLENARY SESSION ON "HUMAN DIMENSION OF THE PROCESSES OF BUILDING A UNIVERSAL CULTURE OF PEACE AND TRUST" WAS HELD AT THE IUHD

On December 11, 2021, at the International University for Humanities and Development of Turkmenistan in the framework of the International Conference "Peace and Trust Policy – Basis of International Security, Stability and Development" was held a plenary session on "Human dimension of the processes of building a universal culture of peace and trust".

The session was moderated by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Doctor, Rector of the International University for Humanities and Development of Turkmenistan Esen Aydogdiyev.

The Head of the ICRC Regional Representation in Central Asia S.Koenig, UNFPA Acting Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia G.Vallese made their statements, as well as the ILO Country Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia O.Koulaeva made her speech in the online format.

WHO Director General T.Ghebreyesus, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia A.Khan, UNHCR Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific I.Ratwatte, UNESCO Assistent Director-General E.Matoko, as well as WTO Deputy Director-General Xiangchen Zhang addressed the meeting by video.

Congratulating the President of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen people on the 26th anniversary of Turkmenistan's Permanent Neutrality, T.Ghebreyesus in his video message talked about the joint work of the world community to achieve trust, peace and universal development. At the same time, he stressed the important steps taken by Turkmenistan to combat climate change.        

G.Vallese in her presentation, spoke about the Ministerial Conference on Demographic Resilience. She noted that the concept of demographic sustainability is closely related to the issues of security, stability and development. UNFPA's readiness to support Turkmenistan on demographic issues, including the census, and to support in understanding and forecasting demographic trends was emphasized. The readiness to provide advisory support to the State Youth Program was also emphasized.

WTO Deputy Director-General Xiangchen Zhang in his speech noted that peace and trust are the basis for effective international cooperation, in which trade plays a key role. He emphasized that Turkmenistan's decision to officially apply for WTO membership is evidence of the government's confidence that peace and trust can best be supported by the multilateral trading system.
