On June 3, 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the United States participated in an event in Washington, D.C., dedicated to World Bicycle Day.

Organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) in partnership with the World Resources Institute (WRI), the event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps from Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Nepal, Lithuania, Indonesia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, the Delegation of the European Union, and several other countries for a bicycle ride through downtown Washington, D.C.

During the event, representatives of the Embassy of Turkmenistan highlighted the international significance of Turkmenistan’s initiative, which led to the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 of the resolution proclaiming June 3 as World Bicycle Day.

Participants emphasized the bicycle’s role as a simple, affordable, reliable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable means of transportation that contributes to public health, environmental protection, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
